Rachel’s Finds: Stella Sturges’ Bible

One of my recent finds is quite special. It is small leather-bound Bible. But this is no ordinary Bible, it was given to Stella Sturges in memory of her uncle, A. B. Sturges according to the inscription in the front. The Bible was printed in 1860 and has the Old and New Testament.

This is a truly wonderful find because, not only is it over 150 years old, but was given to a prominent Sturgis resident when she was younger. There is no date to indicate when it was given, but her uncle of the Michigan 11th infantry, died in 1863 during the Civil War, so I assumed it was after his death.

Now, on to my search for more treasure!
